Practical container guide

Compare the container and the complete delivery cost

A useful 40 ft container price in Ghana should describe the actual unit, its condition and the work included in getting it to your site. The purchase amount alone does not tell you what you will spend once transport, offloading, preparation or repairs are added.

Request a current written quote for your intended use and delivery location. There is no single price that fairly represents every used, new or modified container, and this guide does not imply that a particular unit is currently available.

Quick answer

Compare the total agreed supply and delivery scope. Record the container type, identified unit, condition, included repairs, delivery address, offloading responsibility, currency and quote validity before choosing an offer.

Separate the costs in each offer

Cost item What to confirm
Container purchase Which unit is supplied, and is it standard height or high cube?
Condition and repairs Which repairs, cleaning or preparation are included before handover?
Transport Is the offer for yard collection or delivery to the stated address?
Offloading and placement Who provides the appropriate equipment and positions the container?
Other stated charges Which applicable charges are included or billed separately?

Keep site preparation and optional alterations visible as separate budget items. A quote can be clear about the container purchase while leaving these responsibilities with the buyer, so ask rather than assuming they are included.

Check the condition against your intended use

A unit for business storage and a unit for international cargo transport need different checks. Ask the seller to explain the offered condition in writing and provide recent photographs of the actual container. Compare the doors and seals, roof, walls, floor and interior, including water marks, damage or residues.

For international transport, discuss safety approval and examination status with a competent provider. BIC explains that a CSC plate remains valid only while the container is in good order. The plate does not replace checking the unit’s present condition or the requirements for its proposed use.

Confirm standard height or high cube

Do not compare offers using length alone. A 40 ft standard dry container and a 40 ft high cube have different height profiles. That can affect usable storage, door clearance and delivery planning. Ask for the type and actual internal and door measurements of the unit offered.

Hapag-Lloyd’s example standard 40 ft container has internal dimensions of approximately 12.03 m by 2.35 m by 2.40 m. These example dimensions help with initial planning; the container you buy should be measured and checked for the goods and site involved.

Compare delivered cost on the same basis

For each seller, record the identified unit, condition, preparation, transport, offloading and separately stated items. Establish which costs are included in the quoted total and which still need a separate estimate.

For example, an offer collected from a yard cannot be compared directly with an offer that includes delivery and placement. Obtain the missing transport and offloading scope before deciding whether the lower purchase amount represents a lower complete cost.

Confirm what happens if the proposed unit changes before delivery. The replacement unit, condition and any revised price should be agreed rather than treated as interchangeable.

Prepare a specific quote request

  • Describe whether the container is for static storage or transport.
  • State the preferred size and height type, and any important door or load requirements.
  • Provide the site location, access photographs and proposed placement position.
  • Ask for the condition, inspection arrangements and agreed repair scope.
  • Confirm delivery, offloading, payment stages and quote expiry in writing.

Review 40 ft container delivery and setup planning before fixing the delivery scope. If you are buying for storage, check suitable 40 ft container uses and layouts. If the site or stock list suggests a smaller unit, compare 20 ft and 40 ft containers before requesting the final offer.

Request a quote for your container and delivery location

Send BJH Logistics your intended use, preferred container type and site details. Ask for the available option, its condition and an itemised supply, transport and placement scope.

Why can two 40 ft container quotes differ?

The offers may cover different units, conditions, preparation or delivery services. Compare the same scope, including any transport and offloading that one seller has excluded, before choosing.

Should I ask for a price before checking my site?

An initial quote can help with budgeting, but the final delivery scope should reflect the actual access and placement conditions. Provide the location and site photographs so unresolved delivery costs are visible.
